The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) is starting across the country on Thursday. The answer sheet testing is also starting on Thursday. The results are set to be published by mid-Baisakh.  This time, 512,421 students are appearing for the SEE.

Examination Controller Tukraj Adhikari informed that there are 257,613 female students, 254,811 male students and 7 other candidates. 1,966 examination centers have been designated. 23 students from Everest School in Japan are writing the exam.

The right to decide whether to have the answer sheets tested at the examination center or to bring them to the unit has been given to the concerned unit. The Examination Controller Adhikari said that 73,500 human resources including center heads, assistant center heads, invigilators, assistants and security personnel will be mobilized for the exam. According to him, the answer sheet will be tested at the examination center itself. The answer sheet testing will start on Thursday. Education Secretary Chudamani Poudel informed that the National Examination Board has decided to make arrangements to test the answer sheets of the subjects for which the exam is completed at the examination center within three days.

‘If it is not possible to test the answer sheets at the examination center, the answer sheets can be tested at the Education Development and Coordination Unit in the district on the day of the examination,’ he said. The right to decide whether to have the answer sheets tested at the examination center or to bring them to the unit has been given to the concerned unit.

According to Education Secretary Poudel, who is also the vice-chairman of the board, the answer sheets should be tested within the specified time and the scores should be sent to the board. After that, the results will be published after the student’s scores are verified. ‘It has been decided to make the results public within a month,’ Poudel said, ‘Accordingly, the SEE results will be published by mid-Baishakh.’

Earlier, the answer sheets unit used to collect them from the center and arrange for inter-district and provincial testing. It was not clear where the answer sheets of which examination center would be tested. But when testing like that, it used to take more than two and a half months to publish the results. But this time, after Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel directed to publish the results within a month, the board has made arrangements for checking the answer sheets at the examination center.

Arrangements have been made for the center head to facilitate the disabled, postpartum and foster test takers.  SEE will end on 29 Chaitra. According to the schedule made public on 7 Magh, the first day will be the compulsory English subject exam. Compulsory Nepali on 22 Chaitra, compulsory Mathematics on 23 Chaitra, Science and Technology on 24 Chaitra, all subjects of the optional first section on 25 Chaitra, and all subjects of the optional second section on 26 Chaitra. The remaining subjects of the technical stream will be tested on 27, 28 and 29 Chaitra.

The regular and grade-advancement group exams will be held according to the same schedule. The exam will be conducted from 8 am to 11 am. Electronic devices that use Bluetooth chips such as mobile phones and smart watches will not be allowed in the examination hall. Arrangements have been made for the center head to facilitate candidates with disabilities, postpartum women, and foster children. According to the board's calendar, SEE should have been held from the first week of Chaitra.

However, the schedule was postponed due to the February 21 House of Representatives elections. The government has banned entrance exam preparation classes and bridge course classes that are to be conducted for admission to grade 11 after SEE. Education Minister Pokharel says that the decision to bring results quickly and ban the operation of admission preparation classes has been made as students are psychologically affected due to delayed publication of results and preparation for admission to grade 11.
