Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed serious concern over the government's decision to implement the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24.

Issuing a statement, she said that the decision of the Balendra Shah-led government to implement the report and the arrest of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is a very sensitive issue with far-reaching implications. 'Such an immature decision does not seem to be in line with the constitution, prevailing laws and established democratic practices,' she said.

She said that due process, adequate study and institutional consultation are necessary while implementing the commission's report. Bhandari also mentioned that a hasty decision could weaken public confidence in the rule of law and increase the risk of conflict and instability in the country again.

Saying that it is unfortunate that such a decision has been taken by the current government, which was formed with good governance as its main agenda, Bhandari urged the government to reconsider and withdraw the decision while respecting democratic values, norms and constitutional dignity.

She urged the government to exercise restraint, move forward according to the rules and procedures, and be serious about protecting the country's stability and democratic system.
