Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane will no longer have to attend regular court dates in the Kaski District Court. On Tuesday, the Kaski District Court issued an order exempting him from the date as per Lamichhane's demand.

The bench of District Judge Shyam Kumar Shrestha issued the order while hearing a petition to allow Lamichhane to contest the case outside the date. Lamichhane had submitted an application to the court on Sunday seeking to be relieved of the hassle of regular attendance. According to the court's information officer Ram Bahadur Kisan, he is no longer required to attend court every month. However, the condition that he must be present if additional evidence is required in the course of the case or if the court deems it necessary has been kept unchanged.

Lamichhane, who was facing charges of embezzlement of funds from Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative, organized crime and money laundering, was arrested in Kartik last year. In Poush of the same year, the Kaski District Court ordered his release on bail of Rs 6.5 million. After his release, he has been coming to Kaski every month to attend court hearings. He last appeared in court on Magh 29.

The District Attorney's Office has registered a case against 63 people, including Lamichhane, claiming that Suryadarshan Cooperative defrauded him of Rs 1.51 billion. In which Lamichhane has claimed a loss of Rs 33.7 million, while there is a separate claim of more than Rs 278.9 million for money laundering. The court has stated that even if the liability for the date is removed, other legal processes and hearings of the case will proceed as before.
