A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government's decision to recommend Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal as a member of the National Assembly. Advocates Manish Kumar Shrestha and Vasu Khadka have filed the writ petition in the Constitutional Bench. The first hearing of the writ petition has been scheduled for 25 Chaitra. President Ram Chandra Poudel has also put the name of Home Minister Aryal, who was recommended as a member of the National Assembly, on 'hold'. The Council of Ministers meeting held on 1 Chaitra had recommended Aryal as a member of the National Assembly, saying that the Home Minister had helped the government fulfill its important responsibility during the House of Representatives elections. Prime Minister Sushila Karki had recommended Aryal's name, saying that he had successfully fulfilled the important responsibility of peace and security while being in the government formed after the Gen-G movement of 23 and 24 Bhadra and had helped her.
President Paudel has put the recommendation on hold for a few days without immediately approving it as a new mandate has come after the election held on 21 Falgun. The Council of Ministers meeting held last Sunday had decided to recommend Aryal for appointment as a member of the National Assembly as per Article 86 (2) (b) of the Constitution. There is a constitutional provision that three people, including at least one woman, be appointed to the 59-member National Assembly on the recommendation of the government.
