The government has directed local levels at high risk of dengue to conduct awareness programs with the onset of summer this year.
Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Head of the Insect-borne Diseases Branch of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population, said that local levels have been instructed to conduct awareness programs for the control and prevention of dengue infection.
'Dengue infections have been found to be decreasing due to the awareness program,' he said, 'We have already instructed local levels at risk of dengue infection to conduct awareness programs with the onset of summer.'
Infections decreased by 5 times last year
According to the division, dengue infections decreased by 5 times last year compared to the previous year. Dengue infections decreased by 5 times in 2025 compared to the ratio of 2024. In 2024, 41,865 people were infected, while in 2025, only 8,576 people were infected.
Branch Chief Dr. Dahal said that the decrease was due to the awareness campaign conducted by the government. 'Everyone cooperated in the campaign to destroy the larvae of mosquitoes that transmit dengue to prevent the spread of the infection,' he said, 'which prevented the spread of mosquitoes that transmit the infection and reduced the infection.
The government had been conducting a campaign to search for and destroy larvae that transmit dengue infection in government offices every Friday.
