The special court has demanded a bail of Rs 500,000 from former MP Santosh Chalise in a corruption case. The bench of Special Court Judges Narayan Prasad Poudel and Bidur Koirala held a closed-door hearing after the statement and demanded bail. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed a corruption case against Chalise, the outgoing chairman of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives, on November 11 on charges of acquiring illegal assets. The CIAA had claimed that he acquired illegal assets while he was the mayor of Gokarneshwor Municipality. A money laundering case has also been filed against him. The CIAA claims that out of the assets worth Rs 85.6 million, he acquired only Rs 48.8 million legally. Of this, he had acquired Rs 36.8 million illegally, the CIAA chargesheet states.
