The Supreme Court has ordered UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet to submit a written reply in the contempt of court case. A joint bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Mahesh Sharma Poudel has ordered Basnet to appear before the court, seeking a written reply as to why action should not be taken in the contempt of court case.

Advocate Laban Neupane had filed a case against Basnet in the Supreme Court last Wednesday. The contempt of court case was filed against the judge for making statements focused on the pending case against the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The writ petition states that during a program organized by Press Chautari Nepal on Magh 11, Basnet made statements saying that ‘the Chief Justice and other judges will disappear due to sudden illnesses, the judicial process will be delayed due to panic, fear, greed, or interference, justice will not be delivered, they will be under pressure, they will be afraid of impeachment tomorrow or they will be afraid of national and international powers, the Chief Justice and other judges will turn off their phones, and they will withdraw.’
