On 29th Poush 2079, Ghanendra Ojha filed a writ petition demanding the cancellation of the lifetime allowance as 11 life members of Nepal Academy had received pensions/salaries from the state treasury from various places and receiving facilities as life members was a double exploitation of the state treasury. The newly formed council of the academy decided to cancel the lifetime allowance on 15th Falgun 2079 itself.
Against the decision of the academy, 11 life members had gone to court and were receiving allowances by getting an interim order.
On Sunday, a bench of Supreme Court Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Nripadhwaj Niraula dismissed the writ petition filed by Ojha and Prof. Dr. Tripathi and others.
According to advocate Neelam Kumar Ojha, who argued on behalf of Ojha, the decision will no longer hinder the implementation of the Academy's decision of 15 Falgun 2079 BS.
'The full text of the decision is yet to come.' However, the court's decision has put a stop to the double exploitation of the state treasury in the name of life members,' said the writ petitioner Ojha, 'The state has saved about 10 million rupees due to this decision.'

On 11 Falgun, the Academy Council meeting had decided to stop the allowance of life members who were receiving pensions from other government bodies. The Academy had sent a letter to declare whether or not they had received such an allowance. Currently, 20 people are receiving such an allowance.
Life members including the former Chancellor had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Academy. The petitioners included outgoing Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti, Prof. Dr. Vasudev Tripathi, Prof. Dr. Chudamani Bandhu Regmi, Prof. Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav, Dr. Dhruv Chandra Gautam, Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha, Toya Gurung, R. D. ‘Prabhas’ Chataut (Rajeshworidatta Chataut), Ashesh Kumar Malla, Tulsi Diwas and Shashi Bikram Shah, among 11 others.
