Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) candidate Sushil Kumar Kanu has won from Parsa-2. Kanu won by securing 30,740 votes, defeating his nearest rival, former Law Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia, of the Nepali Congress, by a wide margin of 18,850 votes. Chaurasia received 11,890 votes.
Kanu, 36, who is contesting the parliamentary election for the first time, was previously the ward chairman of Birgunj Metropolitan City-10. He was elected as the ward chairman after contesting the election from Upendra Yadav-led JSP Nepal. Kanu resigned from that post to contest the parliamentary election. He had previously served as a member of the executive committee of Birgunj Metropolitan City for a term. He entered the election fray by putting forward agendas such as employment creation, education reform, good governance, expansion of health services, physical infrastructure development and policy reforms.
Madan Prasad Kanu's son Sushil has passed the 12th standard. Kanu, a native of the Ghadi Arwa area of Birgunj, was also active in social service through various clubs before entering politics. He has been a representative of the Sabiya Partnership Forest in the district.
Kanu, who was previously limited to a specific ward, has now become a people's leader of the entire parliamentary constituency. He says that his victory was possible because the people wanted change after the Gen-G movement and wanted to see youth power in leadership. Kanu's neighbor and childhood friend Pranay Kumar Kanu says that he has been a leader since childhood and that ability has allowed him to enter the federal parliament.
Kanu's closest rival Chaurasia congratulated Kanu and wished him a successful tenure. He expressed his hope that Kanu will fulfill the changes and expectations of the people.
