35 people have been arrested from across the country on charges of being involved in anti-election activities and misusing social media to spread rumors.

The police have arrested them from various districts on charges of anti-election activities and misusing social media to spread rumors.

According to Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Avinarayan Kafle, they have been taken into custody and an investigation has been initiated on charges of disrupting the election and regular peace and security.

Spokesperson Kafle said that they were arrested for engaging in activities that adversely affect election security and misusing AI to spread rumors through social media, and spreading false propaganda.  The police have mobilized a special mechanism from the Cyber Bureau and police offices across the country to monitor and control misuse of social media to disrupt election security.

This mechanism has been activated across the country through the Election Commission, the Central Election Cell of the Police, and the District Election Cell. Along with this, for overall peace and security management, the police have also developed systems such as the Election Information Management System (EIMS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and deployed their mechanisms in election management and security.

An AI unit was formed and implemented at the Police Headquarters last week. This unit monitors and investigates crimes committed due to the misuse of AI and sends those found guilty to the relevant investigation unit for action.
