Nepal's international border crossings to be closed from midnight on Sunday

Border crossings in districts bordering international borders will be closed from midnight on Sunday. The border crossings are being closed in districts bordering international borders with the aim of ensuring a free, fair and impartial election to the House of Representatives to be held on Thursday.

The Election Security Directive  has a provision to close the borders 72 hours before the election. Information Officer Suman Ghimire informed that the Commission has recommended closing the borders as per the same provision.

Accordingly, the international borders are going to be closed from 12 midnight on Sunday until the voting is completed.

The Commission has also urged the concerned bodies to effectively implement the arrangements related to border closure. The Commission has stated that it is adopting various security measures to control possible unwanted activities by tightening security throughout the election period.
