Political parties including the Nepali Congress, the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), the National Independent Party (NISP), have expressed concern over the tense situation in the Middle East and urged the government to pay attention to the security of Nepalis.
Congress President Gagan Thapa said on social media, 'The recent tense situation in the Middle East has worried us. The security of all our Nepali brothers and sisters living in various countries for employment and other purposes has become sensitive. I request all Nepali brothers and sisters to be informed about this situation and adopt security precautions. Please follow the security rules completely and stay in safe places except for essential work.'
He has also urged the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali embassies in the concerned countries to continuously monitor the situation of Nepalis there and take immediate and effective steps for their immediate assistance and safe management.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has also urged the government to take necessary steps for the safety of Nepalis in the Middle East. He said, 'I call on Nepali sisters and brothers in Middle Eastern countries including the UAE, Israel, Iran to remain safe and vigilant, and request the Nepali embassies there and the Nepali government to immediately mobilize for the safety of Nepali citizens.'
NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has requested the government to take high-level initiatives to protect Nepalis from the possible risks posed by the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel and the subsequent developments through social media. He expressed deep concern over the situation and stated that the safety of millions of Nepalis working in the Middle East is our top priority in this situation.
RSP President Rabi Lamichhane has urged the government to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens working in the Gulf countries amid the recent developments in the Middle East. He has drawn the government's attention to the lives, jobs and security of millions of Nepalis working there, pointing out the risk of the security situation in the Gulf countries including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain becoming complicated. He has urged the government to make public regular and factual information about the situation of Nepalis in the respective countries.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, outgoing Speaker Devraj Ghimire and others have also expressed concern about the incident and urged the government to be aware of the risks that may be faced by Nepalis living there and to take immediate steps for their safety. The US and Israel have launched a military attack on Iran. In response, Iran has also attacked US military bases in the Middle East.
