A Nepali girl who was held hostage and forced to do domestic work without even being allowed to contact her family has been rescued in India. The social organization 'Kin India' has rescued the 21-year-old girl from Rukum West in Kotakhai, Himachal Pradesh, India.
The victim's relatives had called the Nepali Embassy's 'hotline' in Delhi and requested her rescue. The embassy has rescued the victim in coordination with 'Kin India' and the Himachal police.
'Kin India' chief Naveen Joshi said that the girl, who started working in an apple orchard four years ago, was later forced to work at home by the orchard owner. Joshi said that after being forced to work at home, she was not paid and was not allowed to contact her family. The girl had arrived in Himachal Pradesh when she was studying in class 11.
Joshi informed that the victim was rescued with the help of the Himachal Police and the local Child Welfare Committee. He said that a police complaint will be filed against the perpetrators. "The victim appears to be in stress. She will be handed over to her family after completing her medical treatment and necessary legal procedures," Joshi said in a telephone conversation with Kantipur. "The necessary procedures are underway at Kotkhai police station in Himachal Pradesh."
