Campaigning for the House of Representatives elections has officially opened from today. The Commission has made arrangements to hold rallies, public meetings, corner meetings, and publish or broadcast election-related materials in the media 17 days before the elections to be held on 21 Falgun.

According to the same arrangement, political parties and candidates will be allowed to campaign for the election from today until midnight on Falgun 18.

It is stated that parties, candidates and other stakeholders can campaign for the election by fully adhering to the election code of conduct, keeping the integrity of the election as a top priority. Political party candidates will be allowed to formally seek votes from voters within the same arrangement.

The Election Commission also issued 63-point instructions for the parties on Sunday.

The Commission is mobilizing various mechanisms for the implementation and monitoring of the code of conduct. It has been made clear that political parties and candidates should not be asked for clarification by writing letters about violations of the code of conduct and should not be forced to take legal action. Addressing a press conference, Chief of Staff Ram Prasad Bhandari warned that if the Election Commission violates the code of conduct, action will be taken, including fines and even cancellation of candidacy.

The Commission has reminded that the code of conduct was formulated after extensive discussions with political parties and stakeholders. All political parties have expressed their commitment to fully comply with the code of conduct.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari said that the Commission has adopted a zero-tolerance policy in cases of violation of the code of conduct.

Similarly, parties and candidates will be able to advertise in newspapers as well as online media based on the prescribed criteria.

The concerned candidate will have to submit the details of the expenses incurred for preparing the stage during public meetings and corner meetings for election campaigning to the election office in person or through a representative.

The Commission has stated that false information, propaganda and hate speech against any party or candidate and for the purpose of adversely affecting the election and for vested political interests should not be given through social media and online media during the election.
