The corruption case related to the wide-body aircraft purchase case has been scheduled for hearing in the Supreme Court. The case has been scheduled for hearing before a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Sharanga Subedi and Meghraj Pokharel.

Both sides have filed an appeal against the special court's verdict in this dispute. The Supreme Court is going to hear both appeals together.

After the special court found only 10 out of 32 people corrupt in the wide-body aircraft purchase case, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the special court's verdict acquitting and imposing lesser sentences on the defendants, including former Tourism Minister and Nepali Congress leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi.

The then Nepal Airlines Corporation Chairman and Tourism Secretary Shankar Adhikari, General Manager of the Corporation Sugatratna Kansakar, and board members Buddhisagar Lamichhane and Shishir Dhungana were found guilty, while the then Tourism Minister Shahi and others were acquitted.

Dismissing the case filed by the CIAA on 22 Chaitra 2080, the bench of the then Special Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar, member judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai and Ritendra Thapa, had ruled on 20 Mangsir 2081 and found only 4 people involved in the aircraft purchase, including the then Chairman and General Manager of the Corporation, and 7 foreigners on behalf of the contractor guilty.

Although some of the defendants were found guilty in the verdict, some defendants including Jeevan Bahadur Shahi were acquitted and the amount and punishment as claimed were not paid.

The CIAA has claimed that there was corruption of 1.47 billion 10 million 85 thousand 482 rupees and 85 paisa in the wide-body purchase case. The commission has alleged that the supplier was paid 67 lakh 88 thousand 109 US dollars and 60 cents (74 crore 58 lakh 77 thousand 482 Nepali rupees) with bad intentions.

Similarly, the authority claims that despite an agreement for a 242-ton aircraft, the price of a 230-ton aircraft was reduced by 12 tons, but instead the price of 242 tons was paid instead. The authority claims that a loss of 6.6 million US dollars (Nepali 725.2 million 8 thousand rupees) was caused.

Although the special court found former General Manager Sugat Ratna Kansakar, former Secretary Shankar Prasad Adhikari and others guilty, the authority claims that no one was punished as demanded by the commission and no action was taken against them.
