Nine of the 12 people who died in a bus accident in Manthali Municipality-6, Ramechhap, have been identified.
According to District Police Office Ramechhap Police Inspector Rajan Prasad Timsina, 9 of the 12 deceased have been identified as of 6 pm on Tuesday. 12 people, including 7 men and 5 women, died in the accident.
According to the police, the bus of former Araniko Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. bearing the number 001-05 Kha 9975, which was coming from Kathmandu via the Manthali-Khurkot Pushpalal Road and passing through Sirise Dhande in Ramechhap towards Okhaldhunga, met with an accident near Benighat Bridge in Manthali Municipality-6 of Ramechhap at 10:40 am on Tuesday. The bus fell off the road and sank in the Tamakoshi River.
Twenty people, including the bus driver, were rescued and sent to the district headquarters Manthali and Shubha Jeevan Hospital in Khurkat in Sindhuli, but the 12 people who were taken to Manthali Hospital were declared dead by the hospital, said Police Inspector Timsina.
According to the police, 4 people from Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-7, Tilpung have lost their lives in the accident. Bhim Bahadur Tamang and his wife Sanumaya Tamang, 35, Tara Tamang, 31, and Tara's sister-in-law Ramita Tamang of the same ward have died.
According to the family members, Tara and Ramit had one son each with them. The condition of the two children with them has not been ascertained yet.
Similarly, Bobby Tamang of Bhimeshwor Municipality-7, Dolakha, Man Bahadur Tamang of Bhimeshwor Municipality-8, Dipesh Basnet of Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-4, Ramechhap, and Dipendra Basnet of the same ward have died. Similarly, Shiva Shrestha of Golanjor Rural Municipality-6, Sindhuli has been identified. The police have stated that the other deceased are yet to be identified.
8 people, including 5 men and 3 women, have been injured in the accident. Among the injured, bus driver Sushant Thapa Magar of Ramechhap Manthali Municipality-11 has been taken into police custody after treatment.
Similarly, Sameer Shrestha of Ramechhap Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3, Jaya Bahadur Tamang of Okhaldhunga Khijidemba Rural Municipality-2, Neelima Tamang of Dolakha Bhimeshwor Municipality-7, Nishma Sherpa of Ramechhap Umakunda Rural Municipality-7, Som Tendi Sherpa of the same place, Devaki Khadka of Ramechhap Manthali Municipality-12 and Olak Bahadur Thapa of Ramechhap Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-4 have been injured.
Seven of the injured have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment, while one is undergoing treatment at Manthali Hospital, according to the police. As soon as the information about the accident was received, immediate rescue operations were carried out with the help of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals.
Stating that an investigation is underway into the cause of the accident, Police Inspector Timsina said that the search operation, including divers, is still ongoing at the Tamakoshi accident site as the deceased's family has stated that there were children with the deceased.
