The government has once again extended the term of the inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of 23 and 24 Bhadra. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, who is also the government spokesperson, informed that the cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to extend the commission's term by 25 days.
Making public the decision of the Council of Ministers, Home Minister Aryal said, 'As per the decision of the Council of Ministers of Nepal on 23rd and 24th of Bhadra, the period of the inquiry commission formed to investigate the physical and human damage caused during the protests on 23rd and 24th of Bhadra and submit a report will be extended by 25 days.'
The commission's term was last extended by 20 days on 8th Magh. The government had formed the inquiry commission under the leadership of former Special Court judge Gauri Bahadur Karki on 5th Asoh. The commission, which had a term of 3 months, was extended by one month on 3rd Poush after it could not complete its work on the scheduled date. The last time the term was extended by 20 days. The members of the commission include former AIG Vigyanraj Sharma and lawyer Bishweshwor Prasad Bhandari.
During the investigation, the commission took statements from then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Dawadi and Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabi Rijal. Similarly, statements were taken from former Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and former Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah.
