Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has emphasized on promoting social harmony and coexistence in building a prosperous Nepal. Speaking at the Silver Jubilee and Nepal Indigenous Knowledge Conference organized by the National Foundation for the Upliftment of Indigenous Peoples at the National Assembly Hall, he said that the government is committed to implementing the principle of inclusion in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution.
Minister Aryal, who is also the government spokesperson, stated that the government has been implementing the spirit of inclusion envisioned by the constitution in a real sense and will continue to do so in the coming days. Stating that the Constitution of Nepal ensures the rights of indigenous peoples, he clarified that the government is fulfilling its responsibility to protect the rights of all communities.
'The government is constantly taking steps to increase the participation of all communities at the policy-making level of the state,' the Home Minister said, 'The principle of proportional inclusion is the core essence of the constitution. It is everyone's duty to protect it.'
National Human Rights Commission Chairman Tapa Bahadur Magar said that the government should emphasize the protection and promotion of the cultural, linguistic, and physical knowledge of indigenous peoples while working for development and prosperity.
Foundation Vice-Chairman Resham Gurung informed that a three-day conference was organized with the objective of protecting and promoting the ancestral knowledge and skills of indigenous peoples. He expressed confidence that the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples would be discussed in the three-day conference and that the conclusions drawn from the discussions would play a helpful role in policy-making and transformation of the state. The festival will run until 27th Magh. At the program, Gelje Lama Sherpa, President of the Federation of Indigenous Peoples of Nepal, emphasized that the state should promote the traditional culture and knowledge of indigenous peoples by passing them down from generation to generation. 'Our art and culture are disappearing, the essence of indigenous peoples cannot be killed in the name of development. It is the responsibility of the state to protect and promote the art and culture of everyone,' he said.
