Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that his party will fulfill its responsibility of managing the country and improving the system.
Addressing the workers at the party office in Kaski on Friday, he said that Nepal needs a force to unite and manage the current situation.
He said that the Congress is not just a political party but a national force that can provide a solution to the country in times of crisis. ‘Whoever can set fire, to extinguish it requires patience, requires ability, we will have to maintain that force,’ he said, ‘Whoever can spread excitement, but we need a force that can do conscious politics, that is the Congress.’
During his address, he clarified the difference between a national party and a national force. He said, ‘There is a difference between being a national party and being a national force.’ The national party may win the election and form the government, but the responsibility of the national power is to identify the problems of the nation as a guardian and resolve to address them.'
Recalling BP Koirala's reconciliation policy and the role played by the Congress in ending the violence of 2060 BS, he said, 'In 2033 BS, BP risked his life to join hands with the king to save the country, or in 2060 BS, bringing the Maoists who shot themselves in the chest to the peace process was the character of the Congress. Today, we need a power to handle the country in the same way. The character of our party must be fixed, we cannot engage in politics of hatred or revenge.'
Admitting that there is extreme distrust among citizens towards state institutions at present, he emphasized that the main agenda now is to end corruption. ‘Citizens are angry because they see corruption at the root of every problem,’ he said, ‘I don’t believe in magic wands, but if the leader has a clean intention and the right policy, the results will come. With the determination that corruption will be eliminated in Nepal and Nepal will move forward, the Congress will now move forward as a warrior against corruption.’ In the context of the election, Thapa said that the Congress will no longer make any electoral coordination and that the workers will be able to vote with confidence on their election symbols.
Stating that the party should be made a confluence of the new and old generations, he said that the new generation called ‘Gen-G’ should be attracted to the Congress. ‘The oldest party in Nepal is also the Congress and the newest party is also the Congress,’ he added, ‘We cannot get involved in just views and likes on social media, our real strength is the organization. We must have the patience to go to every house and listen to the criticism of the citizens and explain it to them.'
Declaring that the internal disputes and factionalism within the party have ended, President Thapa called on everyone to be united. 'The chapters of the convention are over, no one is left behind.' Who stood where yesterday and supported whom, it no longer means anything in the eyes of the leadership. Everyone will be treated equally,' he said, 'Start a campaign to bring back friends who have left and who have been hurt.'
Since the Congress is the only party to fight alone in all 165 constituencies in the elections, he urged the workers to stay focused on the tree without looking left or right. 'It is not acceptable in this Congress to lose another leader to make a leader win.' So, no one should get confused anywhere. "In all three areas of Kaski, in all eighteen areas of Gandaki, there are trees, trees, trees... nothing but trees," he said. "Believing that you will take this message with you, I have told my friends, when going to Asti Madhesh, stop raising the slogan 'This time, this government'. If you are going to raise slogans, raise the slogan 'This time, this government'. This is the party that will take you there."
