This year, Democracy Day will be celebrated for three days. The government has decided to celebrate 6, 7 and 8 Falgun in a grand manner this year to commemorate the day when democracy was established on 7 Falgun, 2007, ending the Rana regime.

A meeting held at Singha Durbar today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sushila Karki decided to celebrate Democracy Day for three days and also formed a main celebration committee.

The committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, includes ministers, mayors of all municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal, Chief of Army Staff, secretaries to the Government of Nepal, heads of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department. The Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs is the member-secretary of the main celebration committee.

As per the decision, various programs will be held for three days at Nepalese embassies, diplomatic missions and consulates located throughout Nepal and abroad. The main celebration program will be held at the Military Forum, Tundikhel in Kathmandu.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Karki said that Democracy Day is very important for us and that we have had to struggle for democracy many times during this time. She said that this day is a symbol of all those movements and the sacrifices made by the Nepali people and their achievements. She said that some positive changes have started to be seen in the country recently and that the movements of 23 and 24 Bhadra have brought change in the country.
