The concluding ceremony of the 1,800-kilometer, one-month-long cycling journey from Chiwabhanjyang to Jhulaghat was held at Dhulikhel Hospital on Wednesday. The 'Mid-Hill Highway Cycle Campaign' was concluded on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
Dhulikhel Hospital has also established a fund for the treatment of cancer patients, including honoring the cancer-winning cyclist who traveled 1,800 km.
The hospital's administrative chief, Dr. Birajman Karmacharya, said that the hospital will contribute to the establishment of the fund by adding an amount equal to the money collected in the fund. 'The hospital is always with the patient for cancer treatment,' he said.
This cycle journey was conceived by cancer patient Hark Lama and artist Kavita Chitrakar. 'Our vision has come true, which was supported by Dhulikhel Hospital and doctors. The innovative work of establishing a fund was also done to reduce the suffering that patients and their relatives have to endure due to lack of funds when they are admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment,' said cyclist Hark Lama.
Dr. Sumanraj Tamrakar, a participant in the cycle journey, said that the journey spread awareness about cancer to more than 2,000 people at 15 locations. Dr. Bikash Parajuli shared his experiences of the journey. Hark Lama and Kavita Chitrakar said that cycling gave them the courage to overcome cancer.
The amount collected through the Cycle Culture Community was jointly handed over to Dhulikhel Hospital by Taralal Shrestha, Gyanendra Sthapit, Hark Lama and Kavita Chitrakar. The founder and executive director of the hospital, Dr. Ramkantha Makju, congratulated and thanked the cyclists.
