President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations has become a milestone in bilateral relations. He said this during a courtesy call on Monday between President Poudel, who is on an official visit to Japan, and Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hori Iwao.

At the invitation of the Japanese government, President Poudel is leading a Nepali delegation including First Lady Sabita Poudel on a four-day visit to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.

'Japan has been providing bilateral grants, bilateral loans, multilateral assistance and technical assistance to Nepal, which has played a significant role in the areas of human resource development, health, agricultural development, infrastructure development, environmental protection, and cultural development. We want to further benefit from Japan's experience, knowledge, skills and technology in these areas,' said President Poudel's press advisor Kiran Pokharel, quoting him during the meeting.

Nepal is in the process of upgrading from the least developed country category in 2026, and he expressed confidence that Nepal will receive goodwill and support from Japan as always. 'Nepal has a great potential to attract Japanese investment in priority development areas. We have already made legal, procedural and institutional reforms to facilitate trade, attract foreign investment and promote innovation in Nepal,' said President Poudel. 

Referring to the cultural connection between the two countries, which are inspired by the teachings of Gautam Buddha and the fact that Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, has served as a strong bridge between the people of Nepal and Japan, he also expressed gratitude for Japan's support for the development of Lumbini. President Poudel said that the contribution of the Nepali diaspora in Japan's socio-economic sector has helped strengthen bilateral relations in some way. 

On the occasion, Japan's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hori Iwao said that President Poudel's role in protecting the constitution and democracy was also appreciated outside the country after the exhibition held on 23 and 24 Bhadra. President Poudel's press advisor Pokharel said that Japan will always support peace, stability and strengthening democracy in Nepal. 

Minister of State Hori Iwao stated that peace in Nepal means peace and development in the region, and added that Japan wants the 21 Falgun House of Representatives elections to be successfully held for peace and stability.

Similarly, he said that Japan will continue to support Nepal's development and informed that Japan has already decided to reconstruct the Sindhuli section of the BP Highway damaged by the flood and build the necessary underpass to end the Koteshwor traffic jam.
