President Ram Chandra Poudel arrived in Japan today on a four-day official visit. He was welcomed at the Narita International Airport by the Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Toru Maeda, and Nepal's Acting Ambassador to Japan Harihar Kanta Poudel, among others.

At the invitation of the Japanese government, President Poudel, along with First Lady Savita Poudel, left for Japan on Sunday night. 

The President will participate in a special ceremony to be organized in Japan on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, informed the President's Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel. President Poudel is scheduled to have a state courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. 

In addition, the President will hold courtesy calls on Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Horie Iwao. According to Press Advisor Pokharel, President Poudel will also participate in a reception organized by the Japanese business community and the Nepali Embassy in Japan during his visit. 

Diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan were established on September 1, 1956. After establishing diplomatic relations, Nepal established its embassy in Tokyo in 1965 and Japan established its embassy in Kathmandu in 1967.    The President is scheduled to return home on Wednesday, Magh 21, after completing a four-day visit.
