President Ram Chandra Poudel has departed for Japan today on an official visit to his friendly country.
Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, ministers, security chiefs, high-ranking officials of the Nepalese government, and the Japanese ambassador to Nepal bid farewell to President Poudel at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The delegation led by President Poudel includes his wife Savita Poudel, high-ranking officials of the Nepalese government, and officials of the President's Office. President Poudel is scheduled to return home on Magh 21.
President Poudel is leading a Nepali delegation on a visit to Japan at the invitation of the Japanese government on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the occasion of the visit, President Poudel is scheduled to participate in a special reception organized by the Japanese government today to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations.
President Poudel is scheduled to pay a state courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Magh 20. President Poudel and Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae are also scheduled to meet on the same day. During the visit, Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Horie Iwao will pay a courtesy call on President Poudel.
In addition to participating in a meeting with the Japanese business community, President Poudel will also attend a reception organized in his honor by the Nepali Embassy in Japan. Nepal-Japan relations date back to the late 18th century.
This relationship became formal with the establishment of diplomatic relations on 1 September 1956, which is known for its friendship, goodwill and cooperation. After the establishment of diplomatic relations, Nepal established its embassy in Tokyo in 1965 and Japan in Kathmandu in 1967. Nepal also has an honorary consulate in Osaka, Japan.
