The National Campaign for Education Nepal (NCE) has appealed to stakeholders not to use children in election activities.
NCE Chairman Love Raj Oli has issued a statement urging all parties concerned to be serious and responsible in not involving children under the age of 18 in elections or political activities under any pretext.
An appeal has been made not to directly participate in processions, meetings, rallies, protests, and propaganda. NCE has warned against using children indirectly or symbolically in digital media, including flags, slogans, photos, videos, messages.
According to the Children Act 2075, the Election Code of Conduct 2082, and the National Framework and Implementation Guidelines for Children in Peace Zones 2068, the statement states that it is completely prohibited by law to involve children in partisan, political, violent, or election-related activities.
‘Using children in favor of or against any person, organization, or political party through social media, online platforms, or other media is against national and international laws and norms,’ the statement said.
The NCE believes that using children in election activities has a serious negative impact on their education, safety, mental health and overall development. ‘Drawn school-age children into a movement or election environment is not only a violation of children’s rights but also irresponsible behavior by adults,’ the statement said. ‘Protecting children is the legal and moral responsibility of all parents, teachers, political parties, their leaders and activists, candidates, social activists, media workers and all adult citizens.’
The NCE has also called on everyone to adopt responsible behavior to avoid using schools and children in elections, to ensure the regular operation of schools and to respect children’s rights. It said, ‘Children are not tools of any movement or election. They are entitled to a safe childhood and quality education.’
