Issuing a message on the occasion of Martyrs' Day, President Poudel wished that this day could provide inspiration and encouragement to realize the aspirations of the martyrs, as dedicating one's precious life for the welfare of the people and the nation is martyrdom.
Paying heartfelt tributes to the great martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand, Gangalal Shrestha and all the known and unknown immortal martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the establishment of civil freedom, democracy and nationalism, he recalled that Martyrs' Day will be considered as a day to specially remember the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.
‘We have been celebrating Magh 16 as Martyrs’ Day every year, remembering the brave warriors who sacrificed their lives in various movements against feudal, autocratic and dictatorial regimes in various periods of history to make the Nepali people sovereign citizens,’ the message says. ‘I believe that moving towards fulfilling the aspirations of sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity through the federal democratic republican governance system achieved through the sacrifices of the great martyrs would be a true tribute to the martyrs.’
