Educational details of 645 candidates for the House of Representatives are empty

Social media has been abuzz with criticism over the educational background of candidates running for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. Some candidates have been questioned on social media for leaving their educational qualifications blank on their candidacy forms.

Analyzing the details of the candidates registered with the Election Commission, it is seen that the educational background is diverse. From general literacy to those who have obtained a doctorate (PhD) degree, they are in the race to reach the parliament.

According to the Election Commission's statistics, nearly 19 percent of the total 3,406 candidates have not disclosed their educational qualifications. Analyzing the details submitted to the commission, it was found that 645 candidates have not mentioned their educational qualifications.

Of the candidates who have not disclosed their educational qualifications, 8 have put a '–' sign in their details, while the remaining 637 have left the relevant details blank. Similarly, 252 candidates have filled in their educational qualifications but their details are unclear. The educational details filled in by those candidates have not been clearly disclosed.

However, the prevailing law of Nepal does not make it mandatory for candidates for members of the House of Representatives to disclose their educational qualifications.
