India's 77th Republic Day was celebrated on Monday at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The program, which was attended by the Indian community in Nepal, was flagged off by Acting Ambassador Rakesh Pandey.

A video of the address to the nation by Indian President Draupadi Murmu on the eve of the 77th Republic Day was presented in the program. A video summarizing the significant progress made in India-Nepal relations in the past one year was also presented.

Acting Ambassador Pandey honored the wives and next of kin of deceased soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces and handed over AGIF (Army Group Insurance Fund) cheques worth Rs 72 million. Students and teachers of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center at the embassy, as well as Nepali artists, gave dance and musical performances at the program.

India, which gained independence on 15 August 1947, was declared a democratic, sovereign and republican nation on 26 January 1950 by promulgating its constitution. Therefore, Republic Day is celebrated on 26 January every year.
