The Authority seized mobile phones and other devices from 17 employees, including the office chief, three police officers deployed in the transport department, and seven people from the driving center on Tuesday afternoon to investigate allegations of extortion during the license trial. According to the Authority, 39 mobile phones, including 25 from Pokharel and 17 employees, three from three police officers, and nine from seven employees of the Nepal Driving and Reconditioning Center, were seized.
A complaint was filed with the Authority alleging that licenses were being issued by charging Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 from those who took the written test. After a special team from the Authority went to Chhadke on Tuesday, the devices were seized for investigation after finding evidence. The Authority has also seized documents from the transport office of people who failed the written test for licenses but were allowed to retake the test.
