The Election Commission has made public the personal details of the candidates who filed their candidacies for the House of Representatives elections.
There is a provision to make the personal details of those who have filed their candidacies for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives scheduled for Falgun 21. The Commission has made public the personal details submitted along with the nomination papers of the candidates whose nomination papers are pending on the scheduled date under the first past the post electoral system as per Section 22 (1) of the Election Directive for Members of the House of Representatives, 2082.
As it is necessary to make the personal details of the candidates public in order to make the election process transparent, fair and credible, the Commission has made the details of all the candidates public as per the legal provisions, informed the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. This has been published on the Commission's website with the aim of making it easier for voters, stakeholders, media and the general public to obtain necessary information about the candidates.
3,486 candidacies have been registered in 165 constituencies of the country under the first past the post electoral system. The registration of nomination papers was completed simultaneously across the country on Magh 22. Out of the total 3,486 candidates, 3,089 are men, 396 are women and one is another.
