Resham Chaudhary reaches Supreme Court against cancellation of candidacy

Resham Lal Chaudhary, President of the Citizens' Liberation Party, Nepal, has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission's decision to reject his candidacy.

Chaudhary has demanded that the decision of the Election Officer, Kailali Constituency No. 2, be nullified, claiming that the Election Officer had illegally canceled his candidacy. He has sought an interim order to uphold his candidacy.

He has also demanded that his candidacy be maintained and allowed to contest the election. Chaudhary's petition was filed on Friday and the Supreme Court has stated that a preliminary hearing will be held in the Supreme Court on Sunday.

The Election Officer's office had canceled Chaudhary's candidacy, saying that even if he was sentenced to life imprisonment and pardoned by the President, he would have a record of his crime and imprisonment.

He had filed his candidacy in the House of Representatives election from Kailali-1.
