The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, which has been regularly monitoring and inspecting markets, has inspected 18 firms in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur in a single day.
After the inspection, a fine of Rs 201,000 was imposed on New Shiva Store Kathmandu-29 New Bus Park after it was found to be deficient. The department stated that action has been taken against the firm as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2076 BS.
Similarly, Himalayan Brewery Pvt. Ltd. has been directed to appear before the department within three days with business-related documents. The department clarified that corrective instructions have been given to 16 other firms.
The department clarified that regular market inspections are conducted in the presence of local administration, consumer rights activists and local stakeholders.
