In the first six months of the current fiscal year, 163 complaints have been registered with the Press Council Nepal.
According to the council, 163 complaints have been registered till mid-December of the fiscal year 2082/83. Of the registered complaints, 77 were refuted after correspondence was sent in accordance with the journalist code of conduct, 52 were submitted and the complainants were informed of the replies, and 14 were apologized and corrected, informed Joint Spokesperson Ram Sharan Bohara.

Similarly, 744 content from 632 media/web portals/social networks has been self-monitored during this period. Spokesperson Bohara said in a statement issued on Wednesday, 'Out of which there are 447 media outlets and 185 non-media outlets, 136 media outlets and 27 non-media outlets have been instructed and warned based on the seriousness of the violation of the code of conduct. Correspondence has been sent to the relevant bodies to investigate and take action against 20 non-media outlets with which there is no contact.'
The Council has stated that while it is regularly monitoring whether journalists and media outlets are following the code of conduct, it has initiated a special monitoring process to check whether the election code of conduct is being followed in the context of the implementation of the election code of conduct.
'During the election, there may be incidents of dissemination of various criticisms, accusations, disparagement, false information, propaganda, and character assassination materials about political parties and candidates with the aim of influencing the election, and hate speech may be made by leaders of one political party against leaders of another political party and party leaders, and such materials may be received by the media. Therefore, the media, journalists, and media personnel should always be vigilant not to give space to such materials and not to allow the dissemination of materials that are in favor or against someone and that are character assassination of a political party or candidate,' the council said in a statement.
Similarly, the media, journalists and media personnel have been urged to be vigilant in preventing unprofessional conduct that goes against the values and norms of journalism, disseminating content without factual verification and evidence, misusing social media to spread rumors and confusion in society, publishing content that is deliberately false, misleading and distorts facts to incite the situation, and acting against professional conduct and illegal acts.
