Applications for the election police, which have been opened for the security of the upcoming House of Representatives elections, have been received for around 200,000 rupees.

Applications for a total of 149,090 election police officers, including 133,980 to be deployed under the Nepal Police and 15,110 to be deployed under the Armed Police Force (APF), were opened. A total of 196,470 people have applied for the post.

Among those applying for the election police, 26,631 who worked as temporary police officers in previous elections, 674 from the former police, 1,673 from the former army, 228 from the former Armed Police and 153 from the former forest guards have also applied. There are 167,057 civilians left to apply. Now, the selection process will be carried out from among the applicants. For this, the selection process is being carried out from the district offices of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police. The selection process is set to begin from Monday (Magh 5). The application period for election police recruitment was opened from 25 Poush to 1 Magh, but the time was extended due to low applications in 36 districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim. Accordingly, the application period was extended to 3 Magh in the districts with low applications. Including the addition, 196,470 people have applied through the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had issued the procedure for recruitment, mobilization and deployment of election police to be deployed under the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force within a period of 40 days.

In the Mangsir 2079 election security for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly members, applications were doubled, that is, 232,088 people applied. In the local elections of Baisakh 2079, about 100,000 temporary police applications were opened, and about 300,000 more applied. In this election, the number of applicants is comparatively less.

A security plan has been approved to mobilize about 337,000 security personnel for the security of the House of Representatives election scheduled for 21 Falgun. For that, regular army, police, and armed and insufficient security personnel are being filled as election police with a 40-day work period.

Those who join the election police will receive the basic salary and clothing and ration allowance of police and armed police personnel. According to the Unified (Police and Armed Police Force Nepal) Procedures for Recruitment, Selection, Appointment and Mobilization of Election Police, 2082, an election police officer will receive a salary of Rs. 34,000 for 40 days at a rate of Rs. 869 per day and Rs. 40 per paisa per day and a ration allowance of Rs. 40 per day as determined by the District Rate Determination Committee.

It is mentioned that a one-time allowance of Rs. 846 per person (transportation allowance) will be provided to go and return to the place assigned to the election, a lump sum of Rs. 1,200 for lunch expenses at the rate of Rs. 300 per day for four days, and a one-time clothing allowance as determined by the police and the armed forces in that district according to the weather in the district will be provided. All the amounts thus provided will be sent to the bank account of the concerned election police officer.

If these personnel deployed in the election are injured in the course of their duties, the injured person will be provided compensation as determined by the government and in case of death, the next of kin will be provided compensation as determined by the government. If the election is canceled or postponed for any reason, even if the training is ongoing, the appointment will be automatically canceled/suspended, as stated in the procedure.

The Election Commission has already determined 10,967 polling stations and 23,112 polling stations across the country for the upcoming elections. A security action plan has been made to deploy the inner perimeter police and election police, then the armed police and the army for external security management based on risk.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has already formed a recruitment selection committee under the coordination of the Assistant Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office to select the recruitment of election police.

The criteria for recruitment were that the age should be 18 years and not more than 54 years by the last date for applying for recruitment. The qualifications specified were that the candidate should be able to read and write, not have been convicted by a court for a criminal offense involving moral turpitude, not have membership in any party at the time of recruitment, be physically and mentally healthy, not be a member of a terrorist or subversive organization, and be a Nepali citizen.
