The government is also planning to deploy a police cybercrime control team to control cybercrime and misuse of social media during the elections.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that this mechanism is being mobilized to prevent the spread of rumors by misusing digital platforms.
Home Affairs Spokesperson Anand Kafle said that the cyber police is being mobilized to control untrue information, rumors and misleading propaganda, cybercrime on social media, hacking, fake accounts and digital fraud and to ensure voter privacy, digital security and a peaceful election process. He said, "Election Cyber Police personnel will be deployed from the Cyber Bureau at the Valley Police Office to coordinate with the Central Command Post, Election Commission and Central Election Cell."
According to Home Affairs Spokesperson Kafle, cyber police will also be mobilized at each provincial police office and district police office. The cyber police have been given the mandate to monitor, analyze election-related cyber activities and direct, recommend and investigate necessary actions.
Similarly, a special team of the Cyber Bureau under the Nepal Police is also being deployed at the Election Commission to control misleading information that may spread through social media. This team has been given the authority to analyze and investigate content on digital platforms and online media. The number of manpower to be deployed as cyber police will be finalized by the Police Headquarters within a few days and informed to the Election Commission.
