The Election Commission has granted the official status of the Congress Party to the Gagan Thapa faction. The meeting of the Commission held on Friday decided to update the decisions taken by giving legitimacy to the special general convention. According to sources in the legal department of the Commission, the decision was made to update the leadership selected after the special general convention.

The party's special general convention held at Bhrikutimandap from 27-30 Poush had elected Thapa as the party president. The party of Gagan Thapa, who was elected president from the general convention of the Nepali Congress, had filed a petition to update the party's details, while the party of Sher Bahadur Deuba had filed a petition against the petition.

The dispute was discussed by the acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, along with the commissioners Sagun Shumsher Jabra, Janaki Tuladhar, and the secretary of the commission.
