Nima Kunkyap Rokaya of Baijibada, Kaike Rural Municipality-5, has been appointed as the chairman of the Buddhist Philosophy Promotion and Monastery Development Committee.

He has been appointed as the chairman for a period of five years by a ministerial decision of the government.

Departmental Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula handed over the appointment letter in the presence of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Anil Kumar Sinha on Tuesday.

He was appointed as the chairman of the committee as per Sub-section 2 of Section 3 of the Promotion of Buddhist Philosophy and Monastery Development Committee (Formation) Order 2075 BS, said Gokarna Prasad Upadhyay, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry.

Social worker Kunkyap has been providing education with residential facilities to the poor, poor and helpless children of Dolpa by opening the Dolpo Bon School since 2008. He has been running the school alone for the past 16 years.

Rokaya completed his PhD in Buddhism from the world's largest Mendri Monastery of Bon religion in Himachal Pradesh, India, in 1994. Along with this, he also completed a post-doc in Philosophy of Buddhism from Sampurnananda Sanskrit University in Banaras in 2002.
