One person has died in a road accident on the East-West Highway near Kotihom Mai Bridge in Kankai Municipality-4, Jhapa.

According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, a white car with an undisclosed number plate coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday. The driver of the motorcycle with registration number BAAB 6126, Kamal Parajuli, 35, a resident of Kankai Municipality-4, was seriously injured in the accident.

Parajuli was immediately taken to B&C Hospital, Birtamod, for treatment after suffering a serious head injury. However, doctors declared him dead at 9:20 pm, about 50 minutes after being taken to the hospital.

Police said the vehicle that hit him fled the scene of the accident. The body of the deceased has been kept at the same hospital, while the police said that the search for the fleeing car and investigation into the incident are ongoing.
