Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Kumar Ingnam, along with Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development Gopal Prasad Sigdel, inspected the new Parliament building under construction on Tuesday.

During the inspection, he took stock of the progress of this building, which is an important infrastructure project of Nepal.

The new parliament building under construction consists of 12 office buildings, an integrated parliament secretariat and a special facility building. All the structures have been equipped with a state-of-the-art central temperature control (heating and cooling) system as per international standards. Once fully operational, the premises are expected to consume about Rs 6 million worth of electricity per month.

This ambitious project, which has been delayed for the past 6 years, is now moving ahead with speed to be completed before the new parliament session. Two parallel construction teams are working to expedite the work. Both the construction teams have expressed their commitment to complete the work of the two parliamentary halls and the secretariat within the next 40 to 50 days. The construction work is scheduled to be completed in earnest before the new parliamentary session, which will begin in the first week of Chaitra. Minister Ingnam also directed that all parliamentary offices be shifted to the new secretariat by Falgun 20-25.

During the monitoring, Minister Kumar Ingnam emphasized the national importance of this project and said, 'This is a project of our national pride. Please proceed with this with utmost urgency and caution. This is your responsibility.'
