Baitadi jeep accident: 'Avoided by reversing 10 minutes ago'

Jeep number M 1 Ja 224 had initially left for Baitadi district headquarters from Motinagar in Surnaya rural municipality. After encountering a passenger heading towards Dadeldhura on the way, the driver shifted the passenger bound for Baitadi to another vehicle.

Four people have died and six others have been injured in a jeep accident that occurred near Bijaypur in Patan Municipality-8, Baitadi, on Monday morning.

The injured are being treated at Dadeldhura Hospital. Some passengers have escaped the accident by chance.

The jeep number Ma 1 Ja 224, which left Motinagar in Surnaya Rural Municipality on the Khodpe-Bajhang road section of the Jayaprithi Highway, was initially headed for Baitadi headquarters. After finding passengers heading to Dadeldhura on the way, the driver changed the destination of the jeep and picked up passengers from Dadeldhura. After that, the passengers who wanted to go to Baitadi headquarters were shifted to another jeep. 

According to Himal Air, a passenger who survived the accident, he got off the jeep about 10 minutes before the accident. ‘I was going to Gothalapani, the headquarters of Baitadi, to collect a national identity card,’ he said. ‘We were shifted to another jeep after they were told to put the passengers from Dadeldhura. The jeep we were riding in was a little behind.’

According to him, the jeep that met with the accident was moving at a high speed ahead. ‘The jeep accident happened right in front of our eyes,’ said Air, ‘it was seen rolling and rolling uncontrollably and overturning.’ After his relatives were involved in the accident, he did not go to Baitadi but came to Dadeldhura Hospital with the injured.

According to the police, the jeep coming from Motinagar in Baitadi to Dadeldhura lost control due to high speed and crashed near Bijaypur in Patan Municipality-8, killing three people on the spot. The deceased are Nishant Bohara, 24, of Sigas-1 in Baitadi, Bhandev Bhatta, 29, and Rakesh Rawal, 13, of Aital-3 in Dadeldhura. Police said that Basanti Air, 27, who was injured in the accident, died at Dadeldhura Hospital during treatment.

4-year-old Prinsa Air, jeep driver Ganesh Bista, 28, Kamala Bista, 25, Birendra Bohara, 19, Bimala Air, and 25, Lalmati Bohara, were injured in the accident. They are being treated at Dadeldhura Hospital.
