Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has directed the Department of Information Technology to work towards making the Integrated Office Management System (GIOMS) mandatory in all ministries.
Addressing a program organized at the Department of Information Technology under the Ministry of Communications on Friday, Minister Kharel emphasized the need to make all ministries and agencies paperless to make the ministry's service delivery efficient and effective. Minister of Communications Kharel said, "I urge you to work to make GIOMS mandatory in every ministry during this term, as it will help maintain service effectiveness and good governance." He emphasized the need for policy and structural reforms in the department as information technology plays an important role in the country's development and economic prosperity, including good governance.
Currently, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications have implemented GIOMS. It is stated that this system has been launched to implement the government's concept of making the work performed by government agencies simple, easy, fast, economical, transparent and effective through a single information technology system and making it paperless.
Using this system developed by the Department of Information Technology, it has been made mandatory to use electronic signatures to process specific orders and comments, register and invoice letters, approve attendance, leave and work, and manage records, among other things.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Kharel, who is also the spokesperson for the government, expressed confidence that the elections will be held on the scheduled date and that the youth will dominate the parliament and government that will be formed thereafter, which will make a significant contribution to the development of the country's information technology sector.
Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Radhika Aryal urged the department to make its work more technology-friendly and its services more efficient and effective. Director General of the Department of Information Technology, Mr. Chandra Sah, expressed confidence that the department will be made technology-friendly by making policy and structural reforms to the department.
