More than 60 percent of the general convention delegates from the districts of Lumbini Province have voted in favor of a special general convention of the Nepali Congress.

Nine district presidents out of the 12 districts of the province have also come out in favor of the special general convention.

According to Congress Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun, there are 1,352 general convention delegates from 52 constituencies in Lumbini. In addition, there are about 50 from various sister organizations. Of these, about 850 have come out in favor of the special general convention. 'It was 56 percent two days ago, now it has increased to more than 60 percent,' he said. 'Since it is continuously increasing, we estimate that it will reach 70 percent by Friday evening.'

He said that the district presidents of West Nawalparasi, Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Banke, Kapilvastu, Pyuthan, Rolpa and East Rukum have already signed in favor of the special general convention.

80 people from Rupandehi, which has the largest number of constituencies among the districts of Lumbini Province, had also signed in favor of the special general convention. In Rupandehi, which has 5 constituencies, there are 137 general convention delegates, including 130 from the constituency and 7 from sister organizations, said Constituency 2 President Prajapal Giri.

According to him, among those who signed, 4 have now withdrawn their previous signatures demanding a regular general convention, and now the number of people signing openly in favor of a special general convention has increased. ‘It seems that 90 people from Rupandehi alone will be open in favor of a special general convention,’ he said. ‘With 4 people withdrawing their signatures, the number of people saying that a special general convention is necessary to save the Congress and going to Kathmandu for the general convention is increasing.’

He said that among those who previously signed in favor of a special general convention from Rupandehi, Hari Bahadur Chhetri, Narayan Pun, Santaram Chaudhary and Chiranjeevi Poudel have withdrawn their signatures.

Special general convention supporters are continuing their efforts to increase participation in the general convention from Bardiya, Dang and Rupandehi, which have not yet declared their support for the special general convention.

Lumbini Provincial Assembly member and Nepali Congress Lumbini Joint General Secretary Nima Giri said that a majority of representatives will come from Dang, Bardiya and Rupandehi, which have not yet declared their presidents. ‘Although they did not sign earlier due to internal problems in the district, now more people are coming to Kathmandu saying that a special general convention is necessary,’ she said. ‘While 15 people from Lumbini Province had previously signed and withdrawn their signatures, now 32 have joined them demanding a special general convention.’

Birendra Prasad Kanodia had announced that he had withdrawn his signatures from Kapilvastu. However, Abhishek Pratap Shah, who had declared his support for the establishment from Kapilvastu, has now declared his support for the special general convention.
