The all-party and all-sectoral meeting held here on Tuesday under the leadership of the District Administration Office, Parsa, reached a consensus and the 'curfew' imposed since Monday has also been lifted from 3:30 pm today.
Parsa Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal informed that the decision to lift the curfew was taken after he made a commitment not to demonstrate or agitate in Birgunj regarding incidents that have occurred in other countries or places. 'We have decided to lift the curfew after the understanding between the two communities here and the peace and security situation here is improving,' he said, 'Now life here is moving towards normalcy.'
The meeting reportedly decided to insist that the agitating parties submit a memorandum to the Chief District Officer before holding a protest, taking prior permission from the Chief District Officer, and only after that the agitation program will be launched.
'It has been decided to form a permanent harmony mechanism as per the details, comprising leaders of active political parties and various religious communities in the district to control future religious, social and harmony-related activities and to recommend necessary legal action,' he said.
According to Pradya Dahal, the permanent harmony mechanism will include Ranjit Shah and Ranjan Singh from the Hindu community. Similarly, the Muslim community will include Mahmud Mahbub Ali (Sheru) and Ali Asgar Madani.
The all-party and all-party meeting has also arranged for representation from other religious communities as per the requirement and one representative each from the political parties in the district.
Similarly, the chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists and a representative of civil society will be members of the same mechanism.
The meeting also decided to request all types of media personnel to disseminate news in a way that does not disturb religious, cultural/social harmony before disseminating news.
Similarly, it has been said that the local administration will be active in bringing groups/movers who incite to disrupt religious, cultural, and social harmony to justice.
It has also been decided that all parties, reflecting on the weaknesses of their respective groups, will express their commitment to maintain discipline, self-restraint, and harmony among the people of their respective communities. The meeting also decided that everyone will play an active and positive role from their respective places to ease the current situation and will not hold any further protest programs, according to the District Administration Office.
