The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has removed Dipendra Poudel, a labor counselor at the Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from his duties for negligence in the relief and rescue of workers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has removed Poudel from his duties and recalled him to Nepal.
The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security appointed Poudel as the embassy's counselor last year. However, he was relieved of his duties with one year remaining in his term. He returned to Nepal on Saturday.
An internal investigation was conducted against Poudel for his negligence in matters related to relief, rescue and compensation of Nepali workers in the UAE. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that he was relieved of his duties and sent back after it was confirmed that he had committed negligence. However, no written consent was obtained from the Ministry of Labor regarding his return.
The Nepali Embassy in the UAE had formed a three-member investigation committee under the coordination of the Deputy Chief of Mission to investigate Poudel. The committee had sent a report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that negligence and errors were found in the work related to consular services.
The Ministry of Labor has started sending labor counselors (undersecretaries) and labor attachés (branch officers) through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2066, as mentioned in the Foreign Employment Act. He is the first labor counselor to be returned before his term was up.
