The commission held discussions with the constitutional commissions on Sunday to make the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21 a success. The Election Commission has called for the discussion after realizing the need for active cooperation from the constitutional commissions to make the elections a success, said Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, chairperson of the Indigenous Peoples Commission. He said that the commission has been confused in identifying communities including indigenous peoples and Dalits in the context of proportional inclusion, and has requested their assistance in that regard. He also informed that there was a discussion on whether to recognize the basis of marriage or birthright while implementing proportional inclusion. He said that during the discussion, everyone concluded that birthright should be recognized. He said that they had suggested that it would not be appropriate to make it a basis since the basis of marriage is changeable. He said that he had also suggested that since many citizens of the indigenous peoples do not understand the Nepali language, the election campaign should be conducted in their mother tongue. During the discussions with the Commission, the constitutional commissions had committed to supporting the election in their respective areas in a clean, fair and independent manner. The commissions also discussed the issue of monitoring the elections in coordination with the Election Commission.
