Pathak arrested in Philippines for threatening authority chief

Prakash Pathak, who threatened Prem Kumar Rai, Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, has been arrested.

He was arrested by the Fugitive Suspects Search Unit of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) of the Philippines from Malolos City after a diffusion notice was issued to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) at the request of the Nepal Police.

BI has made his details including his photo public on its website. An arrest warrant was issued on December 1, 2025, in the District Court, Kathmandu, for the crime of criminal breach of trust. The details of this had reached the BI. A diffusion notice was also issued against Pathak in the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on charges of extortion and criminal conspiracy.

‘According to official information received by the Philippine Immigration Department, he made statements that incited fugitive prisoners not to surrender, provided financial support and indicated that he had access to weapons,’ the immigration department’s website says. ‘He has also been found to be involved in a plot to assassinate a high-ranking foreign government official.’

According to Philippine immigration records, he arrived there on August 18, 2025. He was allowed to stay there until December 18. Pathak is said to be in immigration custody until the deportation process is completed.

Pathak had threatened to kill Rai and others by claiming to be the head of a militant organization. Three of his friends were also arrested by Kathmandu police some time ago.
