Ministry appeals to adopt health precautions during winter

What you should know

The Ministry of Health and Population has urged people to take necessary precautions, saying that with the onset of winter, cold, fog, and snowfall have started to have adverse effects on public health.

The ministry has issued a statement saying that the number of patients with cold, cough, fever, asthma, difficulty breathing and hypothermia symptoms is increasing during the winter season. The ministry says that the air pollution that has increased with the winter season in recent years has seriously affected organs such as the heart, lungs, brain and has increased the risk of chronic diseases such as asthma and cancer.

The ministry has urged people to avoid cold, avoid smoke and dust, eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients, wear warm clothes and consume fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin 'C' in sufficient quantities, as children, pregnant women, the elderly and chronically ill people are especially at risk during the winter season. The ministry has also urged people to pay attention to hygiene, drink plenty of fluids and not go out unnecessarily during extremely cold weather, the ministry's spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki said in a statement.

The ministry has urged people to contact the nearest health institution or seek advice from the 'Hello Health Call Center 1115' if problems caused by cold increase. Similarly, the ministry has urged people to be extra vigilant, noting that deaths and hospitalizations occur every year due to lack of precautions when using fire, heaters, and geysers in winter. Since carbon monoxide gas can accumulate when using such devices in rooms that are not ventilated, and even endanger life, it has been urged to use fire and heating devices only in open and safe places, extinguish them while sleeping, keep flammable materials away, and install geysers outside the bathroom.

If you experience symptoms such as headaches or dizziness while using such devices, the ministry has requested that you immediately go to an open place with good air circulation and contact the nearest health facility if the problem persists.
