Counterfeit currency trading in Kathmandu: 6 people arrested with 93 pieces of 1,000-denominated notes

Based on information about the transaction of counterfeit notes, the police have arrested six people from Attarkhel Chowk, Gokarneshwor Municipality-8, Kathmandu.

According to the police, a joint team deployed from the Boudha Police Circle and the District Police Range, Kathmandu, took them into custody at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday. Police said that 93 fake currency notes of Rs. 1,000 were recovered from the arrested persons.

Those arrested are Dawa Norbu Sherpa, 32, of Sindhupalchowk Bahrabise Municipality-2, currently residing in Sankhu, Shankharapur Municipality-4, Kathmandu, and Pasang Sherpa, 44, of the same place.

Similarly, Prakash Gurung, 32, of Sindhupalchowk Melamchi Municipality-3, currently residing in Sankhu, Renuka Bharati, 42, of Sindhupalchowk Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-10, currently residing in Shankharapur-6, and Gokarna Thapa, 65, of Sindhupalchowk Balefi Rural Municipality-2, currently residing in the same place, have been arrested. Suk Bahadur Syangbo, 43, of Shankharapur Municipality-3, Kathmandu, has also been arrested. Police said further investigations are underway into how the counterfeit notes were obtained and how widespread their network is.
