After the incident that took place in Nakkhu Prison on Bhadra 24, 1,280 prisoners who were convicted and serving sentences in various cases escaped. According to the prison administration, 70 percent of them have returned to prison voluntarily or in coordination with security agencies, while the remaining 30 percent are still absconding.

According to Nakkhu Prison Chief Dirgharaj Upadhyay, the search for absconding prisoners is ongoing. 'The search for absconding prisoners is ongoing not only within Nepal but also outside the country. We are active in the campaign to return all absconding prisoners to prison as per the law,' he said.

It was previously announced that prisoners who do not return to prison by Asoj 20, as per the deadline set by the Prison Department, will be dealt with under the Prison Act, 2079 BS and other prevailing laws.

The prison administration has requested the families of the prisoners, security agencies, local levels, media, relevant government offices and all concerned parties to cooperate in the search and control of the escaped prisoners.
