Vehicular movement has been affected for three days on the Daunne section of the East-West Highway due to slippery roads due to a cold wave.
Senior Suhi Prem Pokharel of the Traffic Police Office, East Nawalparasi, said that due to the frost, large and freight vehicles cannot climb uphill and have problems with slipping on the downhill, causing traffic jams.
As part of the Butwal-Narayangadh road expansion, slope and culvert construction work is currently underway in the Daunne section by operating one-way traffic.
It currently takes 5/6 hours to cross the 14-kilometer area of the Daunne section. Large vehicles have to be pushed by dozers. Passengers have been suffering due to the inconvenience of traffic for three days.
After problems arose in traffic operation in the Daunne section, the Butwal-Narayangadh Road Expansion Project, West Section, has issued a notice urging people to use alternative routes.
According to Bikash Khanal, Information Officer of the West Section of the project, since traveling on Daunne is more problematic, passengers have been advised to use alternative routes. Even if the road lanes are not followed, there is a lot of traffic jams in this area.
When traffic is blocked in Daunne, two-wheeler and four-wheeler small vehicles coming from the west to the east are considered to be easy to exit Dumkibas via Bhutaha, Sanbarat, Patuke, Dadajor in Bardaghat.
This 15-kilometer-long road is 4 kilometers blacktop. Since the rest is unpaved and narrow, it will be easy for Scorpio and four-wheeler jeeps. This section is not considered suitable for large and heavy vehicles.
The Road Department and the Traffic Police do not formally recommend operating vehicles through this road section. Vehicles going west from Narayangadh can go to Butwal from Gaindakot in eastern Nawalparasi via the Kaligandaki Corridor and exit Palpa. Mini buses and passenger buses can operate on this section. There is an option for large vehicles and cargo trucks to travel from Muglin in Chitwan to Butwal via Pokhara, Palpa.
